Bhakt Pralhad's plea to Lord Narsimha Deva to bestow mercy on his father Hiranyakashipu fascinates me. Despite all the inconveniences imposed upon him by his father, Pralhad had affection for him.
When asked by Lord as to what boon he wants, Pralhad requested the Lord not to destine his father to Narak (Hell). He asked the Lord to excuse his father for all his sinful activities. This was the only thing he asked for. He further added that his father was not bad and he hated the Lord due to lack of knowledge. Because of his ignorance, he was unnecessarily angry with the Lord.
Though Pralhad knew that his father at the time of death had already been purified as soon as he came in contact with the Lord's lap and his glance upon him but he still wanted to get it confirmed, get it heard from the Lord's mouth.
Lord Narsimha told Pralhad that not only his father has been purified but all the twenty one forefathers; the entire dynasty has been purified.
How can a person who fathered such a noble child be sent to Narak?
After having killed Hiranyakashipu, Lord Narsimha was extremely angry. Nobody could pacify his anger. Even Goddess Lakshmi could not dare to come before Lord. It was then that Brahma asked Pralhad to go forward and pacify the Lord's anger. Pralhad didn't have any fear to go by the Lord as he was an ardent devotee of his Lord. Of the twelve devotees of Lord Vishnu, Pralhad was the best example of an ardent devotee. His staunch devotional service to his Lord, his perfect knowledge and his perfect detachment from material contamination makes him different and special.
Pralhad always wanted to take shelter of lotus feet of Lord and he prostrated at the lotus feet of his Lord. Lord Narsimha got ecstatic in affection towards his devotee and raising him, He placed hand upon the head of his ardent bhakt.
Such is the mercy of Lord. Pralhad had surrendered himself completely to his Lord. And then the Lord took care of his bhakt.
Lord has so much more in store to give us but it's our hands that fall short to take it.
Pralhad always wanted to take shelter of the lotus feet of his Lord. He wanted liberation from the material world.
IN MATERIAL LIFE, WHETHER ONE IS MISERABLE OR HAPPY, BOTH CONDITIONS ARE MISERABLE. AND EVEN IF THERE ARE REMEDIES TO GET OUT OF MISERABLE LIFE, SUCH REMEDIES IN THE MATERIAL WORLD ARE MORE MISERABLE THAN THE MISERIES THEMSELVES.
